If you’re anywhere near my age you’ll fondly remember Alient Ant Farm’s cover of Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal” which became the band’s biggest hit of their career. The song is awesome in a couple of ways– it is equal parts rock and roll shreddability and comedic relief, because nowhere in music history should a nu-metal band from the 2000’s be covering one of The Prince of Pop’s biggest hits. It’s ludicrous in all the best ways. Equally ludicrous is Alien Ant Farm’s album naming conventions. They called their first album Greatest Hits and their follow up Anthology. I can always appreciate a band who isn’t afraid to rock with a nod and a wink.
