Fear Before the March of Flames is the kind of band that parents around the United States heard playing from bedrooms 20 years ago and collectively were like “this doesn’t even sound like music, this is just noise” and for the first time in forever they were probably right. They’re the definition of that teenage hardcore angst in all of the best ways, which makes even more sense in retrospect when you consider that the entire band recorded this album on a shoestring $1,500 budget when every single one of the band members was still in high school. Blending screamo, post-hardcore, and progressive metal into a singular distilled dose of dissonance, Odd How People Shake lumbers along like an angry drunk with a wounded leg smashing everything in its path.
