Despite the fact that I binge listened to “Hey There Delilah” in high school (along with 99.6% of my graduating class), saw Plain White T’s live at an L3 when they opened for The Matches, and consider Jimmy Eat World one of my favorite bands of all-time (more on that in a second), I never really got too deep into the discography of Plain White T’s.
But goddamn color me pleasantly surprised when I flipped on All That We Needed this morning. This album is a low-key pop rock gem from the mid-aughts, filled with songs that draw clear influence from the aforementioned Jimmy Eat World both in perfectly shaped overdriven guitars and deliciously tasty vocal harmonies on top of strong lead lines. Getting into Plain White T’s for the first time at the age of 37 years old wasn’t something that was on my agenda for this year but it looks like I’m here. And I’m kind of ready for it.
Standout Songs: “All That We Needed”, “Take Me Away”, “My Only One”, “Breakdown”, “Hey There Delilah”, “Revenge”
