Along with having a great band name (seriously what a great goddamn band name) The Story So Far is one of my favorite pop punk bands operating today. So when I saw that they’d be on tour with fellow modern pop punk titan Neck Deep and a hotshot upstart Origami Angel I was pretty excited. The challenge? The show was going to be about 300 miles away in Southern California. So I did what anyone would do— I got together with my bandmates in Kindergarten Cartel and said hey let’s do a 24 hour whirlwind experience where we go and record some tunes during the day and then go to watch some of our bigger influences play a live show at night. It took some careful planning and a little cajoling but eventually we locked in plans and committed.
That show is tonight. In fact, I’m on a flight down to John Wayne Airport right now as I write this. In preparation for their live set I’ve been binging their most recent live album I Want To Disappear In The USA which is both a clever reference to their most recent studio album and a nod to the country in which they’ve logged thousands of miles over the past decade and a half. If the show tonight is anything like this album, filled with energy and impeccable execution, me and the boys are in for a real treat.
