I’ll be seeing MxPx live in a few months alongside The Ataris, which is basically gonna be me living out my 13-year old self’s dream show at the age of 38 years old. I’ve talked about my love for MxPx a few times in past (especially my personal history with their 1995 album Life In General) and generally remember that album first and foremost whenever I take a trip down memory lane. Having said all that, after dusting off their debut album Pokinatcha tonight I was utterly surprised at how much I remembered a bunch of these songs as soon as they came on, especially the first half of the album. I haven’t heard songs like “Want Ad” and “Realize” for probably two decades or so but as soon as they came on I could recall nearly every single lyric off the cuff like it was nothing. Love it when stuff like that happens. This whole album is so skate punky and raw and kinda shitty sounding which makes them absolutely perfect in their own way. A helluva nostalgic trip with this one.
Standout Songs: “Anywhere But Here”, “Want Ad”, “Realize”, “Think Twice”, “Bad Hair Day”
