Father John Misty ‘Fear Fun’ (2012)

Father John Misty’s Fear Fun introduced the world to a bold new incarnation of Josh Tillman in the early 2010’s that would eventually watch him become one of the more commercially successful indie folk artists in an era when it seemed like everyone was doing the vintage indie folk thing. Tillman cut his teeth in the Seattle folk scene and served as drummer for Fleet Foxes where he helped shape the lush harmonies of Helplessness Blues. But after leaving the band shortly aftering, Tillman emerged as Father John Misty with a sound that blended Laurel Canyon folk-rock warmth, sharp lyrical wit, and a dose of psychedelic swagger. Fear Fun mixed rich instrumentation and existential humor to kickstart a charismatic career that continues to be relevant today.

Standout Songs: “Nancy From Now On”, “I’m Writing A Novel”, “Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings”
