Known for their sleek synth-pop sheen, the group blended Tom Bailey’s knack for indelible hooks with Alannah Currie’s slyly political lyrics that disguised darker undertones beneath universal pop themes. They were MTV-ready icons with this formula and this unique ability allowed them to turn avant-garde artistic experimentation into a mainstream spectacle. No moment on this album is better than their iconic “Hold Me Now” which still makes me feel all the damn feels every time I hear it.
