Story Of The Year ‘Page Avenue’ (2003)

Every millennial knows “Until The Day I Die”, but not many (including myself until this week) are super familiar with their entire album Page Avenue. Which is a shame cause holy hot damn does this entire album MF’ing rip. The dueling guitars of Ryan Phillips and Philip Sneed go so damn hard sometimes it’s easy to overlook the flawless melodic choices of lead singer Dan Marsala. Even in retrospect it’s easy to sort of cringe when you hear those mid-aughts emo singers, but Marsala is different in that he definitely embodies the genre but avoids the whiny nature that gets to be a bit of a turn-off when you turn 35 years old. The whole band in general walks that fine line really well, from the howitzer of an opening song in “And The Hero Will Drown” to the studio-production magic of songs like “Sidewalks”.

This is a sleeper of an album I certainly didn’t give enough credit to at the time. It’s well worth the re-listen for the shredability alone.

Standout Songs: “And The Hero Will Drown”, “Until The Day I Die”, “Anthem of Our Dying Day”, “In The Shadows”, “Burning Years”, “Sidewalks”
