Soul Asylum ‘Grave Dancers Union’ (1992)

Soul Asylum released Grave Dancers Union in 1992 and went platinum based off their hit single “Runaway Train”. The ballad quickly became the band’s defining hit and eventually earned them a Grammy for Best Rock Song. But its cultural impact extended far beyond MTV rotation as the music video famously featured images of missing children and was localized depending on the region it aired in. The haunting refrain of desperation in the chorus mirrored the plight of the kids shown onscreen, and in the years following its release, the video was credited with helping to locate and reunite over 20 missing children with their families. An incredible story honestly and one that really resonated with me when listening to this album. Hard to think of another music video in rock history that had such a wide-ranging and tangible world impact.

Standout Songs: “Runaway Train”, “Homesick”, “Get On Get Out”
