When I think of Foster The People I think of Coachella and the music festival scene of the 2010’s. I never saw them live during any of their stints at Coachella, but damn do they embody the sound of that era and the feeling of being young and free. Torches is kind of a low-key indie pop masterpiece of an album. Wildly imaginative, endlessly creative, music that tells a vividly colorful story through its wide-ranging sonic elements. Splashing neon synths across a canvas of funky basslines, off-kilter rhythms, and soaring falsettos all combined together It’s honestly impossible to listen to “Houdini” and not get a big ol’ grin across your face before getting up to dance like a damn fool.
Standout Songs: “Helena Beat”, “Pumped Up Kicks”, “Houdini”
