I popped into a Mexican restaurant in San Francisco this weekend to get a glass of water (yes, I was that guy) and heard Rhytms Del Mundo’s version of “Clocks” by Coldplay and immediately was taken by it. Basically the premise is that a bunch of prolific Cuban musicians (including a couple from indie-darling Buena Vista Social Club) got together and made Cuban-inspired covers of famous songs. It’s a really cool and fun blend of styles that work nearly every single time. For some reason Spotify only has the EP version available (a full length was released) but if you’re enterprising enough I recommend you seek out the full length version. It’s worth it.
