If you name your band Skid Row in 1989 you better be fully ready to bring the glam metal heat front to back, especially if you’re an East Coast based band. It’s a bold stake to smash into the ground considering the history of how Skid Row in Los Angeles basically defined that era of music in the midpoint of the decade with legendary bands like Motley Crue, Guns N’ Roses, Ratt, and Dokken all cutting their teeth in the depravity of Los Angeles’ skid row. But Skid Row (who hailed from New Jersey) certainly nailed the part. It’s one of those bands that has somehow sort of flown under the radar for me over the years as an entity despite how well I know some of their big singles. Just as an example, “I Remember You” is a song I’ve known incredibly well for nearly 25 years but never really associated with the band before. All this to say, Skid Row is awesome and their debut album is a really great album if you’re looking for the sleaze and excess that 80’s glam metal was known for.
