I was hanging out with the kids this weekend and at the risk of showing my age we were listening to the free “Music Choice” channel on television while we played in the living room. For those unfamiliar it’s just a television station that plays songs on a loop ad-free. We had one the smooth jazz station (cause duh) and Jeff Kashiwa’s song “Givin’ In” came on and all of a sudden the kids started dancing– my son in his diaper, my daughter in her pajamas, and we just had a great time for five minutes. It was one of those fleeting little moments that remind you how great it is to be alive and how music can inspire you to just have a damn good time out of nowhere, literally and metaphorically “move you” in a way that you wouldn’t have done if it wasn’t on. It’s a magical thing in so many ways. And I’ll always remember Sunrise because of that one single silly moment that happened on a Sunday morning with the kids.
