The Lumineers ‘The Lumineers’ (2012)

The Lumineers have had some pretty massive global success over the years (especially with “Ho Hey” off this debut album) and for all intents and purposes they’re massive superstars. The whole Boom-Clap suspendercore genre has been a go-to formula for artists in the last decade, combining the sentiments of mustachio’d Brooklyn hipsters riding unicycles around and drinking fair trade coffee with the auditory sensibilities of 60-year old baby boomer middle-class grandmothers living in well-manicured condos to great success. Is it my cup of tea? Not really. But can I resist the urge to stomp my feet and sing along when the boys really get going? Also not really. There’s something charming about The Lumineers that cuts through my calloused heart every once in awhile and makes them a fun listen when I’m in the mood for some singalong folk pop, even if it’s sweetness tastes like saccharine.

Standout Songs: “Ho Hey”, “Stubborn Love”, “Charlie Boy”
