The Lookouts ‘Spy Rock Road’ (1989)

The Lookouts were known for a couple of things in their brief history as a band. For starters, the band was based in Laytonville which is basically a remote mountain community on the outskirts of Mendocino County in California. To give you some context, the 2020 census was 1,200 people which certainly doesn’t scream “punk rock hotbed”. But the band was determined and blessed with a certain 15-year old drummer by the name of Tre Cool. If that name doesn’t ring a bell you need to get your ears checked– yes the very same Tre Cool who has sat behind the kit for punk rock powerhouse Green Day over the last 30 years.

While The Lookouts never got huge and disbanded in 1990, their legacy lived on through Lookout Records (which was created by lead singer and band leader Larry Livermore). It’s an pretty legendary label which released albums from bands like Green Day, Rancid, Alkaline Trio, Operation Ivy, Screaching Weasel (and countless more punk bands) before it closed its doors officially in 2012.

Standout Songs: “Agape”, “Sonny Boy”
