Alexisonfire ‘Watch Out!’ (2004)

Alexisonfire was a defining band in the post-hardcore scene for me during my high school years. I loved (and still love) their melodic meets murderous dual vocal approach. George Pettit’s raw, aggressive screams pair perfectly with Dallas Green’s soaring clean vocals that creates a powerful contrast that feels so damn grandiose and epic every time I listen to it. Green is one of the best singers in hardcore rock in my opinion especially when you take into account the incredibly interesting harmonies he layers into each approach. And then there’s Wade MacNeil’s lead guitar playing which has always been a favorite of mine. He was pretty clearly an inspiration for a lot of my lead lines on my band Related To Stranger’s debut album GHOST which dropped last month. MacNeil’s ability to both shred and add atmospherics on the same track transport a lot of these songs from straight bangers into something which explores something deeper. Whenever I think of music that embodies true self-expression I think of Alexisonfire and Watch Out! which was the first album of theirs I truly fell in love with.

Standout Songs: “Accidents”, “White Devil”, “It Was Fear Of Myself That Made Me Odd”, “Hey, It’s Your Funeral Mama”, “Sharks And Danger”
