Commodores ‘Commodores’ (1977)

“That’s why I’m easy, easy like Sunday morning” is a vocal line that lives in my head rent free (and probably yours as well). To say it’s an iconic song is probably an understatement. It’s pretty much the defining song on any Sunday morning playlist anyone (including myself) have put together since March 30, 1977. But what I love about Commodores most is how eclectic the band gets on this record. You got that sugary sweet ballad of “Easy” paired with the equally iconic funk titan “Brick House” all on the same record. I mean goddamn these dudes were cooking. With Lionel Richie’s velvet voice out front and a tight rhythm section that could swing from funk to ballad in a heartbeat, it’s a blend of groove and grit that makes it a helluva listen.

Standout Songs: “Heaven Knows”, “Brick House”, “Funky Situation”, “Easy”
