I remember hearing the opening guitar riff of “Daphne Blue” for the first time a few years ago and being totally blown away how fricking gorgeous it sounded. The hazy distortion, the reverb, the sweet delays, all vintage 80’s fare meets modern pop production until everything sounds massive. It was one of those songs that stuck with me for a long time and made me wish I wrote it. The rest of tryhard is similar in that respect– lush and full, a celebration of ear candy with boy band-esque hooks tucked into every crevice. It’s one of those albums that is a perfect compliment to a Saturday afternoon at the beach. It reminds me of being a teenager without a care in the world.
