I was a massive fan of The Offspring’s mainstream breakthrough Americana (which is still my favorite album of theirs bar none) but Smash was the album that first introduced me to the band in middle school. It’s a rip-roaring blast of guitar-driven punk rock that’s mixed with a heavy focus on the mid-range (just the way I f***ing love it). From the road rage glorifying “Bad Habit” to the sloppy vocal intro and self depreciation of “Self Esteem”, The Offspring always had a great sense of bringing dark humor to the seedier parts of life and turning them into massive anthems. I’ll always appreciate them for that.
Standout Songs: “Bad Habit”, “Come Out and Play”, “Self Esteem”, “Smash”
