Taylor Madison, best known for his work with Superheaven, leans deep into 90s nostalgia with his project Webbed Wing in all the best ways. Thicc-ass guitar tones, sharp songwriting, and a real warmth to the production that makes you feel like you’re sitting in a beat up couch in your parent’s living room watching Home Improvement on a Saturday night. Along with having a knockout album title, What’s So Fucking Funny? is pretty damn lovable. Tracks like “Years” and “For Real” pack fuzzy riffs, sludgy basslines, and tastefully simple drumming into quick bursts of grungy, emotionally tangled rock. Madison’s voice remains perfectly suited to the mood, balancing passion and indifference that sit right in the sweet spot between laid back and quietly wrecked. It’s grunge, but it’s also power pop, and it’s also slacker rock, and oh yeah it’s also something completely their own. I dig it.
Standout Songs: “Years”, “Jesus’s Age”, “Make A Dime”, “Same Thing To Me”
