Hermanos Gutiérrez ‘Hijos Del Sol’ (2020)

Listening to Hermanos Gutiérrez is a semi-religious experience. They craft minimal instrumental guitar music that shimmers with a dreamlike, hallucinogenic energy that immediately transports you to a different world. In songwriting we talk about world-building all the time, and that process with traditional music (aka pop) usually needs lyrics to fully get the point home. But on Hijos Del Sol, Hermanos Gutiérrez do it without needing words. Their compositions balance rhythm, timing, and space, creating soundscapes that range from cavernous to intimate. From the Morricone-inspired rumble of “Rain God” to the melancholic sigh of “Hijos Del Sol” and the twinkling vastness of “Cielo Grande”, their music sings without words. It’s a perfect companion piece to the spaghetti Western metal sounds of Wolfhand and their 2020 album The Devil Arrives and an experience I know I will be returning to for years to come.

Standout Songs: “Masa Redonda”, “Cielo Grande”, “Western Bronco”, “Rain God”
