Jackie Wilson ‘Higher and Higher’ (1967)

I was introduced to Jackie Wilson via Van Morrison’s song “Jackie Wilson Said (I’m in Heaven When You Smile)”. When an artist like Van Morrison is writing and dedicating a song to you, safe to say that you’ve made a pretty big impact in the music industry. And it’s easy to understand why after just a few listens to Jackie. The dude is an absolute powerhouse vocalist and his 1967 album Higher and Higher is a showcase of that pure vocal power. There’s not a moment in 60’s music that’s much better than when Wilson hits his powerful highs during the chorus in the title track.

Standout Songs: “(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher & Higher”, “I Don’t Need You Around”, “I’ve Lost You”, “You Can Count On Me”
