The Exploited ‘Punks Not Dead’ (1981)

The Exploited are one of the definitive Oi! punk rock bands, a movement that emerged in the UK during the early 1980s as a raw, working-class response to the more art-school direction punk had taken. Punks Not Dead by The Exploited is largely considered one of the defining albums of the sub-genre. By combining aggressive, stripped-down punk with football chants and street-level storytelling, the band brought together punks, skinheads, and disaffected youth together. Lead singer Wattie Buchan is pretty much a legend in the punk scene– even at 67 years old he’s still playing live shows. The dude also has a flair for the dramatic, as he’s beefed with plenty of artists over the years including calling Green Day sellouts to feuding with fellow punks like Jello Biafra of Dead Kennedys.

Standout Songs: “Punk’s Not Dead”, “Cop Cars”, “Ripper”, “Out of Control”, “Son of a Copper”
