The Rolling Stones ‘Beggars Banquet’ (1968)

Beggars Banquet marked a turning point for The Rolling Stones. The band returned to their roots with a raw mix of blues rock and country influences while at the same time introducing unique percussive elements like Latin percussion. These additions added a new rhythmic depth to their sound while still staying true to what made them one of the most famous bands in the world at the time. But while the music felt revitalized, the band and co-founder Brian Jones were increasingly spiraling. Jones’ drug and alcohol use in particular had become a major problem, making him increasingly detached from the band and barely showing up for any of the studio sessions. Though his contributions were minimal, his decline cast a shadow over the album and he would pass away six months later at the age of 27 years old.

Standout Songs: “Sympathy for The Devil”, “Street Fighting Man”, “Stray Cat Blues”, “Salt Of The Earth”
