I went on a bit of a pop punk bender this weekend busting out some of the old classics like Blink-182 and Sum 41 which usually leads to a “Shirtless Saturday” type situation with my toddlers where we take our shirts off and dance around the house like crazy (I swear I’m a good dad if you’re reading this CPP). At any rate, after burning through Enema of the State and All Killer, No Filler I had the nagging itch to dive deep into the ol’ underground catalog of bands from that era and dust off Fenix TX’s debut album. For those who don’t know Fenix TX they were on the Warped Tour circuit during that time period and clearly took a ton of inspiration from Sum 41’s Half Hour of Power, No Use For A Name’s Hard Rock Bottom, and early Blink-182 (think Dude Ranch and Cheshire Cat). The fact that the late, great Jerry Finn produced this record also helps add to its prestige. I probably haven’t listened to this entire album in full since eighth grade but (as these things typically go) was absolutely able to sing a long and nail a few choruses along the way (yes that absolutely includes “Rooster Song”, which for the record CPP if you’re still listening, was not played with my kids within earshot).
Standout Songs: “Minimum Wage”, “All My Fault”, “Philosophy”, “Rooster Song”
