Originally coined as their self-made genre, This Is Crime Wave evolved into a fluid fusion of punk, hip-hop, and reggae layered with dark, cinematic storytelling. With Fat Mike (NOFX) at the helm alongside Sam King (Get Dead) and Ceschi Ramos, the group embraced a raw, unfiltered sound reminiscent of The Transplants meets Days N’ Daze. Whether it be the reggae-tinged “Def Cons”, the heavy punk rock influences of “Abscessed”, or the druggy contemporary club banger “Fast Ones” (featuring hip-hop legend The D.O.C. who we wrote about yesterday), the whole thing is a rollercoaster in all the best ways. It is deep, groovy, undeniably heavy, and demands patience and an open mind that gets more and more rewarding as its layered artistry begins to unfold. This is an album that runs off a whole helluva lot of vibes and does an excellent job of accomplishing that goal.
