If you’re like me you love 90’s alternative rock and Momma’s Household Name is without a doubt a love letter to that bygone era, bringing the raw, unapologetic energy of grunge back to life with a fresh indie twist. Channeling the rebellious spirit of bands like The Smashing Pumpkins, Pavement, and Hole by weaving those influences into a tapestry of fuzzed-out guitars, slacker cool, and anthemic hooks, this album hits all the right notes on a massive modern nostalgic trip. The gritty soundscapes that made 90s alt-rock feel so electric are all here and fully formed, a balance of grungy undertones with melodic choruses that pay homage without feeling derivative. The band described their album as “the rise and fall of a rock star and the tropes and tribulations that come with the arc” which is also just plain cool. Net-net, this is a fun album to just flip on and enjoy.
