ABBA ‘Arrival’ (1976)

ABBA’s Arrival showcases the band’s signature blend of pop brilliance and sense of drama– the whole album has always felt to me like something out of a Broadway musical, with tunes that told a grandiose story played up to maximum effect. From the infectious energy of “Dancing Queen” (how many goddamn weddings have you been to where this song is played?) to the haunting beauty of “Knowing Me, Knowing You,” each track captures the essence of the 1970s while remaining timeless. The production is lush, with intricate harmonies and clever arrangements that highlight the band’s vocal prowess. And then you have songs like “Money, Money, Money” and “Fernando” which revealed a more playful side of the band that gave all their dramaticism a bit more of a vibey wink that let you know they were in on the bit all along.

Standout Songs: “Dancing Queen”, “Money, Money, Money”, “Knowing Me, Knowing You”
