The Yardbirds’ claim to fame is a damn good one– the band launched the careers of Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, and Jimmy Page, three of the most respected blues rock guitar players of all-time. Their debut studio album For Your Love features the playing of Clapton and Beck respectively. Clapton, who was a founding member in 1963 but had left the band four months prior to the release of this album, still lends his talents to the vast majority of the recordings on this album including their most famous cut “For Your Love”. His replacement Beck would go on to play a crucial role in the band’s rise to prominence, including one of my favorite songs off this album “My Girl Sloopy”. As a bit of an inside joke Beck is featured on the album cover sitting in front of a keyboard he didn’t play during the recording sessions.
Standout Songs: “For Your Love”, “I Ain’t Got You”, “A Certain Girl”, “My Girl Sloopy”
