The Hellacopters ‘High Visibility’ (2000)

Garage rock has been one of my favorite musical genres for as long as I’ve been listening to music. The sound of a Gibson Les Paul plugged into a Marshall amp is a sound as pure as the driven snow, a timeless blend of American ingenuity and testosterone-fueled machismo that immediately burrows its way into your ears and kicks your ass into high gear. The Hellacopters were one of those cult classic favorites of mine that kickstarted my love for the genre– an updated version of your father’s classic rock fare from the late 70’s, combining the fervid pace and pop instincts of a band like KISS with the brisk dual guitar attack of a band like Thin Lizzy. High Visibility is like eating a jalapeno pepper raw– just enough spice to keep things interesting while not being completely overwhelming at the same, something you can come back to time and time again to get that surge of endorphins. Off this album “Toys and Flavors” is that song for me, one I’ve been able to sink my teeth into since I was 14 years old and always enjoy.

Standout Songs: “Toys And Flavors”, “Baby Borderline”, “No Song Unheard”, “I Wanna Touch”
