Mach-Hommy is known for his opaque caginess lyrically and his ability to shapeshift verbally, twisting into different verbal configurations both stylistically as well as linguistically– the album is kind of a trip in that he abruptly will transition from English to Kreyòl and back again at a moment’s notice. But the thing I appreciated most about this album was the cinematic quality to it– #Richaxxhaitian feels like a biographical journey with punctuation marks around each story, and that’s backed up by the top-tier production. The musical arrangements are lush and swirling, but most importantly, they are given sufficient room to breathe at every moment. Whether it’s how the outro to “POLITickle” flows into “SONJE” like a seamless whisper early in the album, the extended musical breaks in the middle of songs, or the gospel orchestral bomb that gets dropped in the album’s final song “HOLY ____”, the musical production here is stellar.
