The Fall of Troy was an underground favorite of mine during high school– their innovative blend of post-hardcore, math rock, and progressive metal was a dynamic addition to my musical repertoire that coincided with my love for post-hardcore bands like Underoath. Doppelganger is by far their best album in my eyes, and features all the things that made them such a fun band to listen to– complex song structures, intricate time signatures, unconventional guitar riffs, polyrhythmic drum patterns, and just an incredibly high level of technical proficiency across all facets of their performances. They push boundaries in a way that seamlessly integrates elements of progressive rock with the emotional intensity of hardcore punk. They remind me a lot of the feeling I get when I listen to a band like Chiodos— fragments of ideas loosely stitched together with a raw energy that makes everything delightfully unpredictable.
