I’ve been on a bit of an intense running kick this year, logging about 15 miles a week, and am constantly on the lookout for a perfect album to serve as the soundtrack for my 5K’s which I’m clocking in at around a 25 minute average. I popped on Drug Church’s Hygiene Friday morning at 7am as I laced up the ol’ Hokas (don’t judge me MF’er) and found my medium distance sprinting spirit animal. The album is 26 minutes of sheer piss and vinegar, 90’s grunge blended in with modern hardcore aesthetics, an amalgamation of the vocal style of The Hold Steady, the lyrical witticism of Piebald, the guitar approach of Black Flag meets The Cure, and the sheer audacity and the pop-hook friendly hardcore like Turnstile’s Glow On. This album kicks ass and I loved every single second of the adrenaline shot.
Standout Songs: “Fun’s Over”, “Plucked”, “Detective Lieutenant”, “Premium Offer”, “Athlete on Bench”
