Shiny and glittery, Prefab Sprout’s third album From Langley Park To Memphis is a trip down memory lane into the world of late 80’s sophisti-pop. This entire album is a colorful collection of immaculately produced New Wave pop songs that sparkle at every turn, a catchy and fun ride that makes you want to tuck in a collared shirt into some loose-fitting high-waisted khakis and dance in the middle of the sidewalk like no one is watching. What I appreciated most about this album is how accessible the song arrangements are and how each section seems to have a memorable hook– there isn’t a wasted moment on nearly the entire album, and that focus on delivering ear candy while retaining a sense of artistic integrity and uniqueness really resonated throughout my entire listen. If you’re in the mood for the sound of easy listening 80’s music you’ve come to the right place.
Standout Songs: “The King of Rock ‘N’ Roll”, “Cars and Girls”, “The Golden Calf”
