I’ve been a huge fan of The Story So Far for a long time now. Their album Proper Dose is one of my favorite pop punk albums of all-time, a seminal record in the genre. As I wrote earlier about it:
Whether it be the perils of substance abuse (“Keep This Up”) or a triumphant rise from the ashes like a phoenix after a few hard years (“Light Year”), lead singer Parker Cannon takes you through a captivating journey of self-realization which connects with me in a way that doesn’t feel disposable in a way a lot of other artists in the genre can sometimes be.
A huge part of that connection is due to vocalist Parker Cannon, whose lyrical prowess and sense of melody is a defining part of The Story So Far’s sound. No Pressure is his side project, and their self-titled debut album is a love letter to early aughts pop punk– fast, loud, fun, and dynamic. It’s a damn good time with really great sounding production and an energy about it that harkens back to the days of Blink-182’s Dude Ranch. And that’s a damn good thing.
Standout Songs: “Lock It Up”, “Too Far”, “Both Sides”
