The Youngbloods ‘The Youngbloods’ (1967)

Sometimes I like to dig through old 60’s folk rock bands who never really made it and check out their albums for no other reason than I enjoy the blind discovery inherent in the process but also the familiarity of what you’re going to get. So many bands in that era and genre of music sort of blend together and The Youngbloods’ 1967 self-titled debut fits that mold. It’s like taking the dog for a walk through the same neighborhood streets you’ve traversed quite literally hundreds of times before except the neighbors planted a new set of flowers in their front yard and the good ol’ boy gets to experience a new smell along the way before he marks his spot. If I was a promoter for this band and they were doing a reunion tour I’d have the tagline “The Youngbloods: Our Simplicity Is Pretty”, promise a show that starts at 6:30pm and gets out at 8:00pm, and we’d totally sell out every 300-person room in 12 select cities on the accessibility of that idea alone.

Standout Songs: “Get Together”, “Four In the Morning”
