Penned as a spiritual follow up to his 2017 debut studio album The Never Story, JID’s 2022 cut The Forever Story is an ambitious project that chronicles the life experiences over the past 20 years that brought him to where he is today. In the vein of hip hop giants Kendrick Lamar and J Cole, the latter who signed JID to his record label Dreamville, JID focuses less on party banging anthems and more on personal reflections of substance and weight. Along with his vocal style, which reverberates between razor fast staccato to a laidback laissez-faire flow (mimicking the diversity of Kendrick) the end result is a delightful hip hop record that has energetic and intimate moments in spades.
