CrazySexyCool is the one of the albums I immediately think of when someone brings up 90’s R&B. The big heavy snare and bass drum beats, soulful melodies, and empowering lyrics is like listening to a little time capsule that takes you back to a time when pop music had some real substance. Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas break down themes of love, lust, and heartbreak in a way that feels especially candid, especially considering the personal turmoil the artists were going on at the time (Lisa Lopes especially). That plays out throughout the entirety of the album, with none as poignant as the timeless “Waterfalls” which details the perils of moving too fast through life with selfish ambition as your only driving force.
Standout Songs: “Waterfalls”, “Creep”, “Red Light Special”
