Frank Sinatra ‘In The Wee Small Hours’ (1954)

The legendary voice of Frank Sinatra played frontman to the musical march of many different types of numbers over his illustrious career– the grandiose “Strangers In The Night”, the big band ballsiness of “My Way”, the swingy playfulness of “Fly Me To The Moon”– but as the name would suggest In the Wee Small Hours is an album suited for moonlit evenings filled with melancholy. Purposefully designed by Sinatra as an album centered on a few select motifs, this album is largely considered the first concept album in history and certainly played a huge role in the music industry’s transition from a collection of singles into a singular work of art. It’s a magnificent representation of loneliness from the best crooner to ever step up to the mic, and an album whose introspective nature works perfectly with his deep light baritone and the world-class arrangements behind him.

Standout Songs: “In The Wee Small Hours”, “Glad To Be Unhappy”, “Last Night When We Were Young”
