Nowadays a lot of people who watch Trisha’s Southern Kitchen on Food Network may be relatively unfamiliar with her music career– the show features her downhome charm walking viewers through relatable and easy-to-execute Southern dishes and does an admirable job of not trying to incessantly cross-market her music career. But damn did Yearwood ever have a killer career– 28 Grammy Award nominations (three wins), and a prolific outpouring of music that continues to this day in between her professional acting and daytime show career.
But well before she was a worldwide star (and nearly 15 years before she and Garth Brooks tied the knot and cemented themselves as country music’s de facto power couple alongside Faith Hill & Tim McGraw), her eponymous debut Trish Yearwood was released in 1991. It was a debut album that laid the foundation for everything that Yearwood would become known for throughout the years– traditional country music played by a cast of world-class Nashville session players, sung by one of the most elegant and finely controlled voices the country music world has ever seen. Listening to Yearwood sing will never get old for me for those reasons– she is simply undeniable in her vocal talents.
