My dad spent a year in Brazil studying abroad during his college years (a longggg time ago– sorry pops) and has always had a love for Brazilian music as a result. Every once in awhile he’ll take the family down memory lane (like his story of Wando helping him pick up women, which is simply great). At any rate last weekend he was waxing poetic about Roberto Carlos, a singer who is the #1 all-time best-selling artist in Brazil who has had a simply astounding 60-year career that continues to this day at the age of 82. When you’re talking about longevity, that’s pretty hard to beat.
Sung exclusively in Portugese, Un Gato En La Oscuridad was Carlos’ breakthrough album and remains one of his most well-beloved. It’s a fitting representation of the man known simply as “The King” of Latin Rock, featuring saccharine sweet melodies and pop instrumentals that take you on the journey of love.
Standout Songs: “Amada Amante”, “Jesucristo (Jesus Cristo)”, “Detalles (Detalhes)”
