Bobby Day ‘Rockin’ with Robin’ (1959)

Bobby Day had a long career in R&B after moving to Los Angeles at the age of 15 years old. As a member of The Hollywood Flames in the late 40’s Day received a modicum of success with his first song “Young Girl”, and went on to record under several pseudonyms during his lifetime. He’s best known for his 1958 single “Rockin’ Robin’” which went on to sell over a million copies as a single. Rockin’ with Robin’ features that as the title track and remained Day’s most successful effort as a solo musician during his lifetime. This song is firmly cemented as a classic cut that will be immediately recognizable as soon as you hear it, and led to the legendary Michael Jackson covering the song in 1972.

Standout Songs: “Rockin’ Robin’”, “Little Turtle Dove”
