Peter Frampton ‘Frampton Comes Alive!’ (1976)

Frampton Comes Alive! was the album which put Peter Frampton on the map, similar in that way to The Allman Brothers Band’s 1971 live album At Fillmore East which jumpstarted the commercial appeal of a band by capturing the raw, infectious energy of their live show. To this day it remains one of the best-selling live albums of all-time, selling over 20 million copies throughout its historic run, with 8 million of those coming the year it was released (making it the best selling album of any kind in 1976). Along with Frampton’s vintage classic rock voice and surgical lead guitar lines, bassist Stanley Sheldon’s performance really stood out– his ability to emphasize specific notes underneath each chord progression added a ton of color to each and every arrangement.

As one of my dad’s favorite albums of all-time that he constantly raves about to this day it only made sense to give this a spin on his birthday. Happy birthday pops. Thank you for inspiring my love for music for all these years.

Standout Songs: “Show Me The Way”, “Lines On My Face”, “Baby, I Love Your Way”
