Brett Eldredge has one of the finest and rich country voices in the industry today and is a consistent go-to for me when I’m in the need of an old-fashioned emotional pick me up. The title track off his 2020 album Sunday Drive has made me well up with tears on numerous occasions (a story I’ll tell another day), and his gritty vocals combined with trademark baritone that gets a little twang in the tenor range is just simply sublime.
Outside of his country records, Eldredge has made somewhat of a name for himself as a Christmas song singer a la Michael Bublé, releasing a multitude of full-length albums over the past 10 years during the holiday season. In that way the album’s title Mr. Christmas is as much of an album title as it is a calling card, an acknowledgement of his recent move to corner the modern contemporary market as the de-facto auditory choice during the Christmas season.
In Mr. Christmas Eldredge eschews the traditional country fare and adopts a bluesy Big Band sound. And as one would expect for a vocal talent this large, he absolutely nails it. It’s swanky and classy and a black tie affair all the way through, a perfect addition to an upscale holiday party or a home celebration that requires a little chic swag to round out the festivities.
