Elvin Bishop has a long and storied history in the blues genre, sharing the stage with such icons such as The Allman Brothers Band and The Grateful Dead. An original member of Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Bishop was inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the 2015 class as a member of that group, and then the next year inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame as a solo artist.
Struttin’ My Stuff is a distinctly 70’s blues rock album that benefits from Bishop’s smooth as silk guitar playing and songwriting. The best known song from the album is “Fooled Around And Fell In Love” which is notable in that it is sung by Mickey Thomas who was a background singer in Bishop’s band at the time. That performance sent Thomas onto greater fame, landing him the lead singer role in Jefferson Starship after the song’s release. It was also one of the theme songs at my wedding (we played it during cocktail hour) based off the history my wife and I had during our relationship. Which is a fun little footnote for my kids whenever they’re old enough to ask.
