Del Water Gap ‘Del Water Gap’ (2021)

Del Water Gap is the solo project of Brooklyn based musician Samuel Jaffe. His self-titled debut is a nostalgia-soaked collection of 12 songs that delights in surprising you at every turn in a charming way that Indie Pop is known for. There’s a slight 90’s alternative hum buzzing underneath the surface that finds its way to mesh with Indie music from the mid-aughts, creating an album that feels rather intimate. I wouldn’t classify this as “bedroom rock” considering the rather impressive production qualities, but it does feel like a personal project and that’s something that has always been appealing as a first-time listener of brand new music.

A unique note on the history of Del Water Gap– he went to college at Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music where he met Maggie Rogers. She was actually in Del Water Gap for a mere six months, and after she left (along with a handful of other band members) to pursue other projects, Jaffe continued the band on as a solo project.

Standout Songs: “Sorry I Am”, “Hurting Kind”, “Ode to a Conversation Stuck In Your Throat”, “Alone Together”
