Local H is predominantly known for their smash 90’s alternative rock single “Bound For The Floor” which is about as mid-90’s grunge as you can get– staccato downstroke guitar punches interspersed with lyrics that detail the weight of depression and a feeling that the feeling is inevitable without escape. It still sounds as good as it did nearly 30 years ago.
The rest of the album is a grab bag of alternative rock that clearly draws significant inspiration from Nirvana’s Nevermind from the vocal melodies of lead singer Scott Lucas to the overall sound and direction. Local H is actually a two-piece comprised of the aforementioned Lucas and drummer Joe Daniels a la Royal Blood. When original bassist Matt Garcia left the band after their first EP Drum in 1993 they made the decision to continue on as a two-piece after their high school friend modded Lucas’ guitar to include an extra bass pickup and second output to flesh out the low end frequencies.
