Stick Figure ‘Wisdom’ (2022)

Scott Woodruff is the frontman and creative center behind Stick Figure, a reggae-based outfit who has risen to prominence over the last two decades since releasing his 2007 debut The Sound of My Addiction. I’m an absolute sucker for any self-taught (and self-produced) musician, and Woodruff’s DIY approach instantly appealed to me considering the parallels I was able to draw with creating my own music. The name “Stick Figure” was actually the handle he used online during college where he gained some notoriety posting instrumental tracks of his songs to the Sublime Archive website.

Stick Figure’s 2022 album Wisdom sounds like a summer breeze, easy and carefree throughout the entirety of its 14-song and 59 minute runtime. The reggae influences are obvious throughout the album, and along with featuring Slightly Stoopid on a pair of songs (“Way of Life”, “Higher”), Wisdom is notable for its success in the genre– the album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Reggae Albums list and just missed out on being nominated for a Grammy Award for “Best Reggae Album” in 2023.

If you’re looking for a carefree and relaxing album to vibe out to, Wisdom is an good pick for a Friday afternoon.

Standout Songs: “Edge of The Ocean”, “Fall Into The Sun”, “Stepping Stones”
