Produced by the late great Jerry Finn (whose contributions to late 90’s / early 00’s punk rock were unparalleled, as we covered relatively extensively in our writeup of Blink 182’s Enema of the State), Music From Regions Beyond is an album that draws significant inspiration from horror punk and goth rock.
A great reference album for this cut would be AFI’s 2000 record The Art of Drowning (which was their last album before launching into the mainstream with 2003’s Sing The Sorrow), especially if you added a bit of 1960’s Americana into the swing of things.
From the vocal melodies to the dissonant guitar lines to the earnest dramatics, Tiger Army pretty much nails the sound of the genre that I grew up with during my high school days. It probably shouldn’t come as a surprise then that AFI lead singer Davey Havok is featured on the album’s third song “Afterworld”, one of the best songs off this record.
Standout Songs: “Afterworld”, “Hechizo De Amor”, “Spring Forward”
