Florida Georgia Line ‘Anything Goes’ (2014)

I have pangs of self-loathing every time I listen to Florida Georgia Line for the very simple reason that intellectually I understand what they’re doing is just tapping into sounds that don’t challenge my brain at all, but emotionally I can’t help getting amped up and start singing along every time one of those big ol’ choruses come on. They’re easy-going, fun as hell, and just flat out great party music. They’re like fried chicken wings you know aren’t healthy for you but you can’t help but place a DoorDash order at 9pm on a Saturday night after a couple beers and slam a twenty piece with atomic buffalo sauce like it’s nothing. The morning after hurts like hell but next weekend you’re back at it again.

The melodies are saccharine sweet but I can’t help but drink em’ all.

On a final note– the song “Dirt” always reminds me of when my wife and I began officially dating. We were out in Florida for a work trip of hers that I tagged along for and spent a lot of time in the car driving from Cocoa Beach to Orlando. “Dirt” was the soundtrack to that trip. Everything about it, from the lyrics to the arrangements, felt like they were custom built at that time to our burgeoning love. Still feels that way when I hear this song.

Standout Songs: “Dirt”, “Anything Goes”, “Sippin’ On Fire”
